Nattokinase is a serine protease enzyme isolated from natto, a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans. Dr. Hiroyuki Sumi discovered it in 1980 while screening clot-degrading compounds. Unlike most cardiovascular supplements that work upstream by improving vessel dilation or reducing inflammation, nattokinase works downstream through a process called fibrinolysis. It breaks down fibrin, the protein mesh that holds blood clots together. It also appears to inactivate plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), the body’s own brake on clot dissolution.
Clinical research has shown nattokinase supplementation can reduce fibrinogen levels and modestly lower blood pressure in adults with elevated values. The evidence base is smaller than for pharmaceutical anticoagulants, and nattokinase is not a substitute for prescribed therapy. Its honest positioning is circulatory maintenance, supporting the fibrinolytic system the body already has.
Potency is measured in fibrin units (FU). Each capsule provides 2,000 FU per 100 mg. The two-capsule daily serving delivers 4,000 FU, matching the dose range used in published human trials. Every batch is tested for FU activity, identity, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory. Manufactured in a U.S. cGMP-certified facility from globally sourced ingredients. Vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO.
