Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is an acetylated form of L-Carnitine which is similar to typical L-Carnitine but is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. L-Carnitine is a compound naturally produced by the body which plays a key role in the mitochondrial oxidation of long-chain fatty acids.

"ALCAR was suggested to me by my doctor. He said to help brain and cognitive functions the dosage had to be at least 2 grams/day. I did notice a difference in my cognitive abilities after a few months. I stayed at this dosage level for several years. As I got closer to my 70s, brain function became more erratic especially a cognitive decline. I did more research on ALCAR and found most often by several sources that theroputic dosage can be between 2 and 4 grams per day. I increased my daily intake to 3 grams. Within a few weeks, my cognitive functions were improving. Within a few months it became stable. My daily routine is more predictable and stable at 3 grams/day."
